{Weekend Herb Blogging #267 }
It looks like 2011 will be a great year for me, food wise. A few weeks back, I jumped with joy to discover fresh chickpeas for the first time.
And now, I am snacking on fresh green almonds.
Yes!! I could not even believe my eyes seeing them at the corner grocery store that I would never stepped in before. What a find!
Fresh green almonds are incredible. Inside the thick shell and bitter skin is the small white nut, which tastes nothing like its dried version. Fresh almond is sweet, nutty and `milky´ – all of these flavours, but in the most subtle sense. If picked much younger, the outer skin could be eaten as well. My almonds are quite old, so you gotta shell and skin them to enjoy the flavours.
I was thinking of Poh´s fresh almond milk recipe as I drove home with a bag of green almonds. However, after tasting it, I think even the small amount of milk in the recipe would be too strong. So what is the best way to eat fresh almonds? Just as they are, I say.
I´m sending this entry to Weekend Herb Blogging, an event is under the care of Haalo at Cook almost anything at least once. Our host of this week is in from Honest Vanilla.
I love your description of these fresh almonds – and I'm so intrigued!
Wow….I've never seen almonds in their raw form….they are pretttty! Almond milk sounds heavenly!
Oh yes, fresh almonds are really milky and sweet.I have had a chance to eat them once and liked them a lot.
I love fresh almonds! I've only ever found them in France. They are so different from the almonds we are used to eating aren't they? There is something clean and almost grassy to them. I think the best way to enjoy them is plain too.
Oh my, totally craving green almonds now! Never had them so fresh that you can also eat the skin. Intriguing!
Green almonds! Interesting!
I really can't decide if I'm more enviosu of these or the green chickpeas! I think I'd fall to the ground in a dead faint of happiness if I ever saw these in Canberra…
Just plain WOW.

Hi…I'm dying with curiousity…where did you get the fresh chickpeas from? We're trying to source seed so we can grow our own, having only read about them and want to try them. Can you give me any clues please?
I've never seen green almonds before! What a treat that must be! Almonds are my favorite nuts!
The green almonds would be interesting to try making almond milk with for a moisturizing milk bath. These nuts are great for skin– and snacking.
