{Spring, please come sooner!}
Melbourne weather is strange! Just last week, the warmer sunny weather gave me so much hope for spring. And then, it got cold and windy all over again. I feel a bit betrayed (!) actually.
Despite the weather, we got some progress in organizing our gardens. The front garden was almost there! I planted a lot of roses before the end of July, and hopefully they will grow and blossom this summer. While I am patiently waiting for that moment, the camellia tree is blooming with the most beautiful flowers I have seen. So. Pretty!
Enough about the weather, gardening and B&W photos! Today I actually have something to share. It is one of my personal favorite drinks – bubble tea, with matcha flavor! This is more of a warm weather drink which I will serve up more often once spring and summer come back. Can´t wait!
{I realize bubble tea can be strange to several people. Here´s the link to a nice article about it!
Matcha Bubble Tea (Matcha Pearl Milk Tea)
Ingredients – for 2 or 3 serves
50g large tapioca pearls
750ml milk
2 tablespoons matcha powder
80g sugar
Method
Cook the tapioca pearls in a large pot of boiling water. The cooking time will vary depending on the brand. There´s a quick cook variety in Asian shops, which I have used here. Once the pearls are cooked, drain well and keep them in a bowl.
Bring the milk to the boil and add in sugar and matcha powder. Stir until everything is dissolved. Taste to see if you are happy with the level of sweetness.
Cool the milk mixture in the fridge. Serve cold in a glass with the cooked tapioca pearls and crushed ice if preferred.
Ahhh…add a scoop of vanilla or matcha ice-cream and I'm an extremely happy girl!
I should make bubble tea sometime, boyfriend loves it. Best wishes for your garden!
This is definitely a Spring drink… :D
Delightful! I love the peaceful atmosphere of those pictures.
I have never heard of bubble tea. Thanks for the introduction Ahn!
The bubble tea looks pretty but the idea of tapioca doesn't thrill me – though I am curious – is tapioca always black! And hope your roses bloom as beautifully as your camelias – they will cheer you up no matter what the weather (and yes it is very cold right now)
I have seen these pearls..or a mix for bubble tea at my asian store:) Yours looks like polka dot perfection..and that bloom..is heavenly.
The matcha flavour is very new to me Anh. I want to give this a try very soon. Wonderful shots as usual
I just bought this flavour for the first time at my sushi/bubble tea shop! Soooo good! I love that you show me how to make a homemade version! Yay!!!
I remember the first time I had bubble tea. I was in love. I've never tried making it, but it doesn't look that difficult, so I might give it a shot. Thanks for the recipe.
Love the photos! so simple and elegant!
I love bubble tea because of the tapioca. And I just love matcha.
Where do you get matcha powder and what's a reasonable price? I saw some online that were expensive!
We have just been hot hot hot here! Thank you for this lovely post. I love bubble tea. I'm enjoying it with a strong cup of coffee and bagels rising on the counter. I hope you have a blissful Sunday and an even more wonderful week.
Love match and bubble tea. Beautiful post
What a fun drink, it's great to know how to make it at home.
That camellia photo is simply stunning!!!
Oh, how I hate that brutal teasing time in-between season! I hope spring does come soon!
Your glasses are to die for! I want them!
Tales of strange weather patterns…sounds like Sydney! Love the tea and the flower shot Anh!
I cannot wait for Spring too! What a gorgeous flower shot. Mmm, bubble tea, I love chewing on those large sago pearls.
Yummy! I love matcha and bubble tea but have never tried green tea flavored bubble tea before. FYI thai iced tea with the cream on top is also great with bubbles.
I love those super stylish glasses Anh..Love the way you captured "bubble". Gorgeous photos.
You know I'm a big fan of matcha, and a bubble tea!! I had never tried (or seen) Matcha flavor before so I order red bean bubble tea often. =) Now you share the recipe, and I know how to make it at home! COOL! And I love your pink flower photo…
beautiful post, love bubble tea. Great luck to your garden. Nice pics.
I think it's time to forget about baking and focus on drinks.
Yours look awesome!
Anh, I have always been intrigued with tapioca pearls- the name itself sounds sooo…..romantic. Thanks for the link to the bubble tea- I'm one of those that are certainly intrigued
I've never tasted anything like this, but it certainly looks awesome! Great pics 😉
i love bubble tea this looks delicious
your photographs always bring me calm and yet my heart beats faster
how strange but true. I have never had matcha tea and it sounds intriguing. The flower is just insanely beautiful!
What a beautiful post Ahn..whimsical and elegant. Love the bubble tea. Must read nore on the link… it's so pretty, and so is the camelia!!
I absolutely love bubble tea! Beautiful photos, by the way
This is perfect for an end-of-summer party – and it's versatile too. I'll leave the recipe untouched for kids but add a little bit of kahlua for my adult friends 😉
you've made this asian drink so elegant and pretty in that glass! love the vibrant green of the drink (compared to the artificial green you get from the bubble tea shops!)
I think this is loved everywhere in Asia
At least tapioca pearls certainly find their way into so many of our sweets. Your matcha version looks lovely!
Anh, your drink looks delicious, I haven't boba for a while…love the idea of match.
I have no clue now how it tastes .. i never had it but i am going crazy over the look .. so pretty and those glasses.. awsm pick
The camellia is gorgeous! And the glasses are pretty too. The bubble tea looks nice in them.
OH WOW… that looks even more PRO than easyway and chattime put together!!!!
This is my favorite bubble tea combination – pearls and matcha! I am not adventurous in a way.
colourful delicious looking bubble tea
This honestly looks amazing and the fact that I am looking at it are 2 in the morning does nought to quench my thirst and hunger /laughs.
Viet pride represent 😉
Matcha bubble tea, here I come darlings!
Tried this, but I think it’d be better to let the pearls sit in syrup for a while, it tasted a bit bland.
I first had boba some 10 years ago when my sister was living in LA, and I fell in love instantly! I secretly hoped we could go to her favorite place every day so I could try every flavor on the menu (though the plain black milk tea captured my heart the most at the time).
I’ve been hoping to make this one day myself, and now that I have a recipe from someone I trust, I think I will! Beautiful presentation as always – I love your glassware.
[…] Bubble tea is one of those culinary miracles like unicorn foam that you’d swear required the technology of NASA to create and couldn’t be made at home, but astonishingly this is false (provided you can find tapioca pearls, and if you’re the kind of person who drinks bubble tea without pearls I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW YOU). It is permissible to make it with booze, and if I can prevail upon a chef pal we shall have a recipe forthcoming. There’s a recipe for matcha bubble tea here. […]
Love love “Bobba” (bubble) tea! That’s how it is called in the store that sells it here.
I tried it for the first time three years ago when we moved to Houston. My husband introduced me to it and I fell in love at the first taste!
Haven’t tried the matcha flavor though.
Had always wondered if it could be made at home easily.
Anh, This recipe is simple enough to not try!
Would you know what flavor is used in the regular bubble tea?
I love a good matcha tea. Combine that with bubble tea and I’m in bliss! Can’t wait for summer which is bubble tea season for me!
Love bubble tea and it’s great to know how simple it is to make at home. I bought some pearl over a year ago that are white and not sure if they are the right kind for tea. Do they turn black after cooking?
