I feel your pain, as I have to travel quite a fair bit each day to get to work. The pay off for me is that I get to live in a decent sized apartment, in a nice suburb :)

That's a long commute! I know my son has a 2 hour commute every day...driving, traffic jams included. Patience is what it takes.
You definitely MUST learn to drive...that way you won't feel so far away from the city.

I always get surprised when I remember that, living in the centre of cities, one often doesn't need to drive. Canberra (where I'm from) is so spread out that even though it's a city, one absolutely needs a car - especially as the public transport is so shoddy!

Good luck getting used to the new place - I'm sure these muffins help :)
